On the wings

Time you fly.
Father grant me that heart of wisdom.
 For eyes to really see.
For love to lay down, to give away.
In the midst of the bickering, there are memories.
From the cries of injustice, there are prayers to pray
wrongs to confess, hurt to be forgiven

The smell of the lake, the scent of sunscreen, the shrill cry of the seagull
It beckons us to look beyond the tides, the beauty
to behold a caring presence
a guiding hand
an Almighty God

We are poring through our library books, dumping water on each other, eating too much ice cream.  I'm cherishing these days more than I fight the frustrations of growing attitudes that need direction. Sister and brother in law, daughter wait for their little boy to come and to be held in arm.

Time is bittersweet. Meant to be embraced but not held on to. Lived to have another day to love.
Help me do it well Jesus.

Look now for glad and golden hours

Time really flies.
Savor the moments.
   Love your people.

A couple of meaningful traditions will be stitches in memories.

It doesn't have to be fancy,

It just needs to be yours.
Make the most of their doings.
Love them. Enjoy them.

Count your blessings.

Christmastime is Here

"Why don't you guys go and get the tree? I'll stay here and get the soup and cookies going. Also I think the tires need air."

The family has been sick and the coughs have lingered. But Jacob was home from school and it was a perfect time to go. I stayed behind to make the turkey soup and my Grandma K.'s chocolate cookies.

This is our second Christmas in this house. Some of us are really missing our house on the hill. It's definitely not the same, but we rest in knowing God had led us here, and we are making new memories in a new place that will hopefully seem more familiar as time goes on. We've been meeting new friends in so many places. It's really kind of fun.
With the kids in school, each of the three older ones have Holiday Concerts, and they each are so excited to perform. Bannon and Abby have had theirs and Sophie's is next week.
I still have shopping to get done, but most of our Christmas cards have all been mailed at the post office. That is such a bittersweet moment as each family and face passes through my mind and prayers. Life and time has a way of keeping me from properly communicating or visiting, even though loved ones are so dear to my heart.

Paper chains and snowflakes
color the walls and tree.
Cookies and too much candy
and of course, happy company.
Colored paper on the floor
glue and markers too
Christmas books and pine needles
gives a Mom a lot to do.

But peace settles in my heart
as I waken in the morn
to know that God has kept me here
to see His love grow more
in the hearts I talk and speak to
of this my heart is sure.

There was also a football game that resulted in a broken nose, and a sprained finger.

You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds,
O God our savior.
You are the hope of everyone on earth,
even those who sail on distant seas.

A Saturday Way of Things

We really love to do the museum thing. Last year we invested in two season passes to a couple of local museums that we have really enjoyed and gotten our money's worth from. One has a large attendance because of its nature to encourage play so it tends to be crowded, and we often get a new virus a couple of days that follow. But I've surprised myself in finding we really enjoy our trips there in spite of its drawbacks.

And gosh. I really really love children's imaginations.

DOLL. HOUSES. DOLLS. Yes girls. I know.
We came home tired and mostly happy.

I say *mostly* because there is so much character work going on around here, sometimes I can't even.

But parenting is a full time work, and we aren't giving up on each other. Nope.

These guys are my heart.

We were able to get some books to borrow from the library selection, and they all dug in after getting in their pj's.

(Sorry honey I got you with your eyes closed,) but this guy made french fries from scratch and they were so good!!

Hannah brought us cupcakes from her new job, and we all have a movie to watch.

This was such a nice Saturday.

                                                            Girls reading the blog
I love taking slow moments in these dark days to savor this season when the sun sets early. My favorite places to visit for a walk are the quiet landscapes found in the local cemeteries. So many stories. So much to think upon.

The veterans.
The fathers.
The mothers.
The daughters.
The sons.
The friends.
The neighbors.
The enemies.
The heroes.

The quiet walks to bring us together.
To remind us of the things that are the most important.
